What does black history month mean to you: Coming from Jamaica, there were many black people like myself. We celebrated Independence Day not so much Black History Month. We talked about the Warriors of the island who fought for our freedom, their faces on our currency.

Black history seems painful here, many talk of enslavement, very little talk of freedom, many talk of segregation, very little thought of growth. I do not celebrate black history month, I celebrate independence from heavy poverty and mental shackles.

In summary I will quote the great Bob Marley "emancipate yourself from mental slavery none but ourselves can free our minds."
